Medicaid can cover long-term care costs, but eligibility has strict income and asset limits. Ohio’s key 2026 figures:
- Asset limit: $2,000 for an individual ($3,000 for a couple).
- Income cap: $2,982/month for a single applicant.
- 5-year lookback: gifts made within 60 months before applying can trigger a penalty period of ineligibility.
- Spousal protections: if one spouse needs care, the at-home spouse may keep $32,532–$162,660 of the couple’s assets (CSRA) plus $2,705–$4,066.50/month of income (MMMNA).
- Home equity: up to $752,000 of home equity is excluded.
Planning early matters — transfers within the lookback period can delay eligibility. This article is general information, not legal advice. Questions? Contact Lei Jiang Law Firm at (440) 835-2271.
